Now, Nepal Wants To Hear From King Gyanendra Shah

“Pashupati ko bayan bhayo, aba tinka pati lai bolaunu parchha,” said a friend of mine this afternoon. After thinking for about a couple of seconds, he continued his remarks as I could see anger in his eyes. “Tesko bayan ta malali lina man lageko chha.” [As Pashupati has been interrogated, he said, now is the time his boss is summoned. I want to interrogate him.] My friend, a reporter, was talking about the necessity of summoning and interrogating Gyanendra Shah, the king, by the High Level Probe Commission for his role in suppressing the historical peoples’ movement of April. The commission today interrogated Pashupati Bhakta Maharjan, Principal Chief Secretary of Gyanendra Shah who chaired an autocratic government in 2005 after successfully hatching a conspiracy against a democratically elected government in 2002. He tried with handpicked prime ministers for about three years. Maharjan, it seems, read out the script that we already knew about. We knew that he would act innocent (he said he worked as a bridge between the king and constitutional bodies and didn’t play any role in suppressing the peoples’ movement) and try to play the blame game.

I couldn’t disagree with my friend. The need of the hour is to interrogate King Shah and let the people of Nepal know why and how he suppressed the April Revolution that nearly overthrew him from Narayanhitti palace. We also need to know from Mr. Shah why those 24 innocent and unarmed Nepalis were killed. Krishna Jung Rayamajhi, the chairman of the probe commission today said that the chairman of the autocratic government would be interrogated. Some people are already seemed to be elated saying that the interrogation of Maharjan itself is historical because this is the first time that any probe commission has interrogated King’s most senior lieutenant. But that is not something to be proud of. Even Gyanendra’s possible interrogation should be taken as normal procedure. We should celebrate the victory of Nepali people only when king gets punished for what he did in October 2002, Feb 2005 and the next 15 months and in April 2005. I have heard some talking about the protocol of the head of state and king and I have told them that Gyanendra has no moral rights to continue his role as the head of state. The voice raised in the April Revolution is enough to prove that he must be stripped off that title and made a normal citizen before giving verdict. –By DW

Haven’t we guys have had enough of this Gyanendra shit already? There are more important topics to be discussed, decisions to be made and all we’re doing is taking pleasure in bashing Gyane. Hell Mr. Wagle, talk about crimes, talk about corruptions, talk about the freakish ‘I-can-do-anything-I-like’ attitude we Nepalese have, talk about the everyday strikes and bulshits ‘ansans’, talk about the Maoists’ hidden intentions in pushing the envelope further and further, talk about the hungry people of Bajura to Dolpa. Isn’t there anything else to talk apart from Mr. Gyane?

    Bhudai,
I do not think you are also Bhudai and Pundit. Can you refute the allegations against Girija that I have accused ? Give the points, do not give general statements on any body’s comments. Girija was the one who created all this mess in nepal. He is feeding his party and his cadres from the corruption money till now during all five time PMship. He is a Bihari type local leader and does not have any long term vision for the country. He is good for Chief Minister of Bihar or Jharkhand. Nepalese had the curse of having such leaders like Girija, Deuba and Makune after 1990. If we had a charismatic and dynamic leader all along these last one decade and half, Nepal would have been different today.

So why can’t desh bhakta say what he wants? You first say anyone can say what ever they want and that is democracy (i wonder if it is really true) but then claim that desh bhakta can only say things with your permission? That is your problem Mr. Pundit, you are a hypocrite.

ASK PRACHANDA HOW CAN MAOISTS JOIN THE GOVERNMENT WILL FULLY ARMED. CALL PRACHANDA, BABURAM BHATTARAI AND MAHARA ON A PUBLIC TV AND DEBATE.

Remember the arm force was never under the ruling political parties. You have quoted this once and many a times in this very blog site and this is very true too. Look Raj or should I call you SPA chamcha: This discussion started from a post that indicated there was blood on everyone’s hand. And yes there certainly is. Your beloved SPA are certainly not on par with the Maoists or the NA but they are not guilt free. They authorized Kilo Sierra where hundreds of innocent Nepalis died and they stood by and watched as the NA continued its autrocities… No I don’t think they systematically and intentionally caused the death and destruction (except operation Kilo Sierra) but they are not a big part of the crap we are in. That is not to say I don’t support them – unfortunetly we don’t have an alternative choice in Nepal.

Let’s forget about the peace process and everything else we have achieved so far and focus on prosceuting Girija. Deuba orders arms from Israel, royal govt. follow-up, Koirala govt. intervenes, stops deal

    By Bhola B Rana

    Kathmandu, 5 Sept:

The government of then Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba placed an order for a $1.41 million consignment of ordinances including rocket launchers, ammunition and raw materials from Israel on 3 Jaunary 2005 for MI 17 Russian helicopters. The L/C or letter of credit for the import of the consignment was opened by the successor royal government three months later on 11 April and a partial $180,000 was advanced 3 July the same year. The government of Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala stopped its delivery through a request to the Indian Embassy. Government requested India not to give over-flight permission to an Ukraine cargo aircraft carrying the Israeli arms consignment to land-locked Nepal.

An Israeli company extended the delivery date of the consignment three times —at least twice after Koirala assumed office for the fifth time in April. The delivery date was extended to August and again to 30 October for the third time. The Ukraine Embassy in New Delhi wrote to the Nepal Embassy on 16 August asking permission for an Ukraine cargo plane to fly to Kathmandu via Ahmedabad with the Israeli consignment; the Defence Ministry received the request letter 25 August and acted.

Acting immediately, the Defence Ministry wrote to the Indian Embassy not to provide over-flights to an Ukrainian aircraft. Home Minister Krishna Prasad Shitaula gave the detailed background after a controversy brewed following published reports India detained an Ukraine aircraft for a search while en route to Kathmandu with weapons. Shitaula said an aircraft from Ukraine never landed in Ahmedabad with arms supplies destined for Nepal. Nepal and India, worked jointly, to stop the aircraft from flying to Nepal.

Security chiefs told the prime minister Maoists are inconveniencing the people through extortions forcing hotel closures and the situation in offices was chaotic.

    Subject: Your view on NA

    Dear Mr. Zollinger,

First of all my apology for being a poor writer. At the time when I was a soldier in the British Army I did not need to use Eng, everything was done in Roman Gurkhali and all British officers in the unit spoke gurkhali.

I read your view on NA sometimes ago in TKP. Yes, those writers who want to give good impressions of NA misleading readers by taking the credits of hard earned honor and reputation of the Gurkhas serving in the British Arny. Those Gurkhas serving in the British Army were the sons of the tribes designated as low caste, just above the so called “dalits”. They were almost all illiterates at the time of joining but sincere and honest. On becoming of soldiers they had total loyalties to their commanders, section to all the way up, taking orders without hesitation. Winning of 13 Victora Cross so far is testomony to that.

Why the Gurkhas performed so well in the British Army, is it is all something to do with the leaderships. They were commanded by caring, committed, high caliber and professional officers leading their men by examples.
