King’s Deceptive Message
The much awaited address by king has only solidified his ambition to remain in power.
Royal Message inside
In his 5 minute long speech, king has tried to take credit for his direct rule and seems reluctant to give power to the people. He has cited article 35 of 1990’s constitution and asked SPA leaders to come up with a name of Prime Minister. Until such name is fixed, the king has declared that he is clinging to the power. This is an utter deception. He is not willing to give up the power yet. This is only a cosmetic change and no one should believe in his words.
It is done only to manage the growing international pressure upon him. He should have cited article 128 by which a powerful PM could be appointed. He is not ready to bring the Maoist in mainstream politics which is the major concern of the people. He should have asked SPA to form an interim government that will eventually hold election for unconditional Constituent Assembly.
People sloganeering in the streets have voiced their concerns over kings deceptive steps.
Meanwhile, state has extended curfew from 8pm to 12 o’clock.
Rajendra Pande, central member of CPN (UML) says : This is a treachery. The movement will go on unless power is handed over to the people.
Upper House MP and lawyer Radheshyam Adhikari comments: This so called solution can not stop people from reaching their goal of loktantra.
Proclamation to the Nation from His Majesty King Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev
7(21 April 2006)Beloved Countrymen,
You are all aware that, given the situation prevailing in the country then, we were compelled to take the decision of 1 February 2005 to set in motion a meaningful exercise in multiparty democracy by activating all elected bodies, ensuring peace and security and a corruption-free good governance through the collective wisdom, understanding and the united efforts of all the Nepalese. By supporting our decision, the Nepalese people made amply clear their desire for peace and democracy and the civil servants demonstrated sincerity towards their duties. We are appreciative of this. We also have high regard for the dutifulness, valour and discipline displayed by the security personnel, upholding their glorious traditions.
By visiting different parts of the country, we made honest endeavours to acquaint ourselves with the hopes and aspirations of our people, mitigate their hardships and boost their morale. We also called on the political parties to enter into a dialogue in the interest of the nation and people afflicted by violence and terrorism. However, this did not materialise. The ideals of democracy can be realised only through the active participation of political parties. In keeping with the traditions of the Shah Dynasty to reign in accordance with the popular will in the greater interest of the nation and people and our unflinching commitment towards Constitutional Monarchy and multiparty democracy, we, through this Proclamation, affirm that the Executive Power of the Kingdom of Nepal, which was in our safekeeping, shall, from this day, be returned to the people and be exercised in accordance with Article 35 of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Nepal - 1990. As the source of Sovereign Authority is inherent in the people, harmony and understanding must be preserved in the interest of the nation and people in an environment of peace and security. While safeguarding multiparty democracy, the nation must be taken ahead along the road of peace and prosperity by bringing into the democratic mainstream those who have deviated from the constitutional path. Similarly, a meaningful exercise in democracy must be ensured with the activation of representative bodies through elections as soon as possible. We, therefore, call upon the Seven Party Alliance to recommend a name, for the post of Prime Minister, at the earliest for the constitution of the Council of Ministers which will bear the responsibility of governing the country in accordance with the Constitution of the Kingdom of Nepal - 1990. The present Council of Ministers will continue to function until the appointment of the Prime Minister.
May Lord Pashupatinath bless us all!
Jaya Nepal!

If he won’t give up power, we’ll have to drag him out and make him give it up then. Drag him out in his pajamas.
I think even the RNA is ticked off now. You think those guys want to keep fighting all the time? Frankly, we should try to influence them now. Let him know that he’s not the only one who can play divide and rule.
King Gyanendra wants to make us fool again. This speech was his attempt to calm down the widespread protest that is clearly threatning the very continuity of monarchy in Nepal. But this will not help him much. He should understand that Nepali people no longer accept his autocracy. They deserve freedom.
Leaders of the alliance, be aware. Don’t reach at any kind of agreement with the king that will undermine Nepali peoples’s desire of freedom. No compromise on democracy (loktantra) and election to constituent assembly. Otherwise, this protest will be directed toward you folks. Don’t fall in the trap of king.
somebody expalin article 35 and 128 of 1990’s constitution!
Reactions to the speech here please!
It is also time to test the dedication and committment of SPA. Whether they are able to unite at this phase is more important.
Girija Prasad should not be allowed to use his kutil-niti and selfishness.
In order for country to be brought back into track, the situation should be reverted back to as it was before Asoj 16, thus Last Democratically Elected Prime Minister, Sher Bahadur Deuba should be offered his rightful chance to become the PRIME MINISTER.
As was the initial understanding of the SPA, Sher Bahadur Deuba may then reinstate Pratinidhi Sabha as per the decision of SPA.
However, it may be wise to form a National Government comprising Severn Parties, whose main agenda should be to bring Maoists to the political mainstream.
what else can King do ? He can only give up power to 7 Party.
If you guys remember, he tried this 2 years ago too and then 7 party start fighting with themselfes and i think the same will happen again. leaders will start fighgint for PM post..
People of Nepal! Go on with your protest and don’t stop until your wishes are true!
This was a political and misleading speech!
LET THE DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED PRIME MINISTER PRIME MINISTER, SHER BAHADUR DEUBA BE REINSTATED TO HEAD A SEVEN PARTY COALITION.
Well according to BBC when they wanted to know Girija’s view, he just didn’t want to make any comments. And this is just pissing me off. How couldn’t he ? Doesn’t he have any idea where he stands ? What they were fighting for ? Why he needs to consult with SPA leaders to say this king is maniac and NC will keep on fighting until the full democracy is there W I T H O U T the king
Not enough! this is totally inadequate. The king is now trying to divide the power hungry SPA leaders and continue to be in charge albeit behind the scenes.
No way! It’s not enough.
People of Nepal are on the street for more than two weeks now asking for re-storation of complete democracy. More than 12 people have already died from the Royal government’s bullet and political leaders were sent to jail and some were kept for almost three months yet the King gives only 5 minutes address to the nation? It seems like he has not yet understood why the people are on the street. He is not going to buzz at all. We must continue our movement until monarchy is competely wiped out of Nepal. Nepal, a poor country don’t deserve to have an expensive, selfish and greedy king. GYANENDRA and his entire family must be dragged out of this country and only then we can start a new Nepal. A PRajatantrik Nepal.
Let’s not stop our movement for complete democracy!
“We are committed to multi-party democracy and a constitutional monarchy,” the king said in his address on Friday.
“Executive power of the kingdom of Nepal, which was in our safekeeping, shall from this day be returned to the people.
This is utter non-sense and crap. King thinks that we the people of this country are really fool. What he thinks? Does he think that he can take and give back power whenever he wants? Why constitution? He must know that people do not want any satus quo and they want change………
He must address:
New constitution
Maoist
Reinstatement of parliament
and The Election of Constituent Assembly…….
Unless he does so, There is no point of stopping the Present Janasagar.
We want Republic state and He must understand This very clearly
Don’t they have someone who’s at least in their 30s-40s to be the new prime minister? Everybody they elect is always old and has some kind of moral flaw. Girija person looks like he’s going to die any second, K Bhattarai is known to be an alcoholic and a womanizer, and Deuba’s taken mucho dinero from the gov and bought his wife jewelry with it. It’s not like the people from nepal don’t know this. Hell, I’m half way across the world and haven’t visited Nepal in years, and *I* still know this.
Anyway, my reaction to the king’s speech is:
http://i3.tinypic.com/w15jwj.jpg
If justice and peoples rights are to be restored then Sher Bahadur Deuba, as a representative of a SEVEN PARTY should be the next Prime Minister.
To hell with Girija and his crooks. I think Gagan Thapa and co. will give some better answers. (Also, they might be able to draw some people.)
I heard that Girija Koirala is trying to grab the seat of Prime Minister instead of giving it to Sher Bahadur or Madhav Kumar.
C’mon, lives of 10 peoples in two weeks doesn’t deserve this. We want Peoples Republic of Nepal.
It is a little and it is too late. It looks to me the cabinet can not reinstate Parliament even it wants. Without parliament the cabinet also can not clip the power of KG. Moreover there are other stake holders to take care off by SPA. They are MBs and India.
I don’t understand why the leaders released from jail celebrate with vermilon and garlands and rejoice as if it was a great achievement, especially at a time when many people are dying and more are injured. Politician in Nepal, whether from NC or UML, are very opportunist and waiting for their turn to the hot seat.
I think SPA should now take up the responsibility.
I understand that there has been much of deception in the past. However, when the message is as clear as it is, we should not be just looking of pessimistic views.
SPA should form a government:
by Sher Bahadur Deuba as PM,
K. P. Oli and RamChanrda Poudel as Deputy Prime Ministers
and comprising of Ministers from all seven parties, the main agenda of which should be to bring Maoists into mainstream.
KG thinks that RNA has done good job to maintain peace and the people had support his feb 1 decision. That sux man…! Really.
Manan,
Timro cyberspacema awaj thulo
Aantcha bhane sadakma gayera chichyau!
We have to get the army on our side. That’s ALL that the thug ‘King’ has on his side. Frankly, if we can even sow a little discord, that would be all. If even a few people in the army revolt, it could lead to a major conflagaration.
exactly deceived by wishing to stay in status quo. it is simply uacceptable. let ca decide the future of nepal. that will bring permanant peace in nepal.
We seriously want Republic of Nepal……….Some leaders from students Union should be Next Prime Minister Like gagan thapa, Rajendra Rai, Biswo Prakash sharma, or someone like that……….My vote will go to Baburam Bhattarai, I think he will be the ideal choice……….But We should not agree in this point because what we want, we have not got yet.
Ganatantra Jindabad.
I am outta here. We can just rant here and do nothing else. Hope SPA will release their statement soon rtaher than taking Raja G seriously.
Manan,
The RNA is never going to revolt! They are the single most reason for the terrotorial and political integrity of this country.
No time to rest yet. People must stay on the streets and correct the hasty (if any) leaders if they get fooled by this. Hope not.
Yes, revival of parliament, maoists and const. assembly must be addressed before accepting any offer.
All politically detained should be released unconditionally right now so that they can contribute to the SPA’s meeting.
Here aresome people who think Sher Bdr should be PM etc. They are completely misled by KG. Small brains!! Going back to Sher’s time doesn’t help, can’t u see? We have to address maobadi issue, nepal ko garib janto ko issues . It’s not only about who becomes PM!! Phew, poor brains!!
Sesyan Nepal,
I heard you describe yourself as a clown before. That’s your role, friend. Don’t forget it.
King has stepped one step forward by declearing power to people.
SPA should grab this opportunity and name one PM as soon as possible.
Everyone is very tired of this current situation.
New PM can restore parliament and can bring CA if there is majority in parliament.
Lets go for election.
SPA should have peace talk with Maoists.
We will vote this time.
This is the last chance for SPA if they have best interest of the country at heart. Else they can go on demoralising the Army. Once the army is gone the Maoists would shoot them all the usurp the power.
Don’t rely on your luck too much SPA, we have seen what an incompetent bunch you guys are.
Let us try to be positive as well. Let us try to be realistic in what can be achieved. There are lot of issues that needs to be addresses however, first step is to give the power back to the people and remove all the bloody tyrants like Tulsi Giri and Kamal Thapa from power.
SPA should come up to the expectations of Nepalese people and form a government ASAP headed by Sher Bahadur Deuba.
this is not enough, this is incomplete speech, to disperse the demonstration by illusion.
wht he has addressed, the demand to clinch of politicians, where is the answer to nepali ppl. where you have addressed these things:
1. Moaist
2. People killed in demonstration
3. the status of army
4. more important, what is the job of seven party after they form gov, wht power do they have over constitution
I want to know:
1. can this gov call mb to join gov
2. can they annouce contitution assembly
3. can they revive house of representative
can anybody explain wht power this gov will have ? legal view.
i am more interested to know about this
You can fool, Some of the people, All of the time, and
All the people Some of the time… but you can’t
Fool All of the people All of the time
Unless the RNA revolts, I don’t see how the people are going to get what they want. And why shouldn’t they revolt?
They want money, like everybody else. IF the U.N doesn’t give them jobs, plus if money from abroad doesn’t keep coming in, what business have they to keep remaining in their role?
Its not that difficult to get them to break ranks. Its happened elsewhere.
Daer All,
KG has not yet given up his greedy desire to stick in the power. The royal speech is again another kind of betrayal. Girija and et may betray the people’s movement in the name of reconcilation. Beware of it. We should not accept anything less than constituent assembly.
Recent Speech by the king is just yet another ploy to derail the peoples movement .How can king talk about giving up executive powers when theres curfew imposed and extended in the city .Five hours ago two leaders of SPA were arrested from the airport. Lets not just go by his words. His intentions are not at all good. The Nepali word “Naaso” that he used to don’t by any way addresses what people in the streets are demanding .
And where are Maoists ??? Where do they all stand in the new equation? They never wanted this, did they ? Does it mean that SPA and M are going to fight each other now ? haha .. no not a very good scenario.
Khabardar!!!
If the leaders fall to Gyane’s trap and start the dog fight to become PM then it will be another even more violent massive massive andolan to sweep the floor and cleanse it from not only Gyane, Kamale, Tulse etc. but also Girije, Makune, Shere etc.
We must not stop until we have a complete democracy with republic. No more playing with poor Nepali’s soul.
Those 10 people didn’t die in vien. The leaders have more moral responsibility than the Maoists for they sent those people to die without any arms unlike Maoists who atleast send their cadres armed to confront the armed forces. Nihattha janatako ragat ko bal ma sasan kasaile ganra chahancccha vanye tesko mulya pani bhujhnu parchha.
If anyone has the country’s best interest at heart, they’ll chase the king out of the country. Looking at him, he looks like he can’t run for 10 minutes without getting out of breath.
He could use the exercise.
And I’m sure plenty of Nepalese people want to chase him out. It’s a win win situation.
Who is Gyanendra to ask for the name of the Prime Minister? He should first give up the power and Nepali people will decide who their prime minister will be. He should get himself out of the whole process. Period.
I think this is a difficult choice for the SPA leaders. I guess the people will not be easy with the decision if SPA decides to form a government.
However, I believe all should come into a consensus including the maoists.
Yes Definitely This is the last chance for SPA if they mess up this time they all will be killed by NEPALI JANATA.
SPA should not be puppet of india and usa.
CNN has said clearly” New PM should have BLESSINGS OF INDIA”
Let’s see if GP, MKN, SBD can come up with a name.. last time these greedy bunch fought among themselves and could not agree on one name. History may repeat it self.
and can they arrest all the present members of council of ministers including chairman, police officers, army officers, etc who ordered to shot the citizens in peaceful demonstration before they flee country.
if not i am again in the street, whole nepali must b in street.
we warn SPA make us clear.
Facts fellas:
Gyanendra is still going to be in Narayanhiti, while Girija and other loosers are going to fight tooth and nail for the PM seat! Ha! Ha!.
Sher Bahadur is the Jhumra ko putali and most incompetent person in this world………..Gagan Thapa or baburam must be PM and at the time of taking PMship, yhey must declare what they are going to do
Revival of Old Parliament
Talk with Maoist
Government(interim) to hold constituent assembly election
punishment to all the RNAs and police and thapa and Giris for committing Human Right Violations
hey mr earth from third world
King said clearly Power of people back to People.
Its now the responsibility of SPA to bring maoists to talk.
No way Deuba can be PM. He can be manipulated to easily. I personally think he’s one of the greatest enemy of democracy ( along with few other SPA leaders). We need someone who’s strong & can’t be swayed by King (& other power centres). probably Narhari Acharya…. (gagan is a bit 2 young, maybe few years later).
I think Maoists also should be there in the Govt.
I don’t care what the ‘King’ said. I want to see him go back to his ceremonial role. I want to see him go back to writing his poems. And I think the 200,000 who demonstrated, alons with a few million others, want the same thing.
Just forming of Next Government is no solution……….we want revolution here and such a process that even the parliament can remove king if it ratifies by 2/3 majority. In Bhutan, just new formed but yet to implement Constitution says that U can remove king if parliament passes such proposal by 2/3 majority………We want new Constitution and we want such provision.
BetterNepal, lots of us believe that the ‘power of the people’ has NOT remotely gone back to the people.
And until it really has, I doubt there’s going to be much progress. It would be kind of painful to have the entire news stations all over the world laugh at the Nepalese
The BBC people already did, kind of.
People who are charmed by Sher Bdr Deuba: Mind that it was him who dissolved parliament under KG’s ‘matiyaar”. And he has not been happy about SPA 12 point agreement with MB. Sher cannot address MB issue. Sher won’t be appropriate even if SPA go ahead and follow KG’s instrunction.
THis is a slap on the face. He is still defiant.
The choices are:
1) Reject it outright.
Pros: It may be faster
We will be reaching the goal outright
Cons: More blodshed
Chances of losing momentum of the movement
2) Take it and bargain for more power
Pros: Less bloodshed
Will be supported by international community
Cons: Goals not achieved yet
Long, slow process of bargaining and will require a lot of manuvering
Gyane might create division within SPA, and take back power
More uncertainty
oic hemuji
what are u another terrarist?
Hey Power is already in the hands of the people, why wait for this hag to give it?
He is sitting on his foxee ass asking for it, lets boot him out, I’m sure he has his caravan ready, chase him to the tribunal.
UWB,
its better if u can put wht is there in article 35 and 128 of 1990’s constituion of Nepal.
What can and cannot gov formed under article 35 do?
Hey Melissa
BBC has agreed that King has taken FIRST STEP to the progress in whole scenario.
And it is easy you to say staying in foreign land. It is us who is going through hell daily.
Sher Bahadur Deuba is last option Guys.believe me I AM BETTER THAN dEUBA. Ya , we can go to choose Narahari acharya or better option I propose will be Baburam Bhattarai………But, is it time to talk and is it worth of talking on this point coz i believe that Democracy or what we exactly wanted has not come back to us……We want something More Guys haina ra!!!!!!
i wonder if the ppl who are talkin here ever gone to the streets right now ? some are millions of miles away from nepal n typin in the comfort of their homes while someone is in the street baring cold hunger and bullets..
i dont think any change can be bought from there.why dont u guys come down here..and face the muzik too
I believe someone from UML needs to be PM. Their communist brethren Maobadi could be tackled better by this way.
Or ppl like Daman Nath Dhungana or Padma Ratna Tuladhar!
Dagger is true.Bro, i would be there if i was in Nepal………
It was unclear, however, exactly how such a transfer of power would take place and whether it would mollify his political opponents.
We salute u people who are working and fighting for ganatantra.
thanks betternepal.
i can see that. but the question is in practicle, wht article 35 says?
However, first the issue of CA needs to be resolved. Unconditional CA.
The King has taken this decision based on consultation with India and US. Therefore we can assume that this solution is acceptable to them. Now, if the SPA wants to go against the wishes of international communities, then good luck to them.
We should ask the army who their loyalty is to. Their ‘King’ or the people? Straight talk.
The tyrnat should eff off now!
no more deception, no more tricks!
the leaders as well should not decieve people’s desire.
if they go to tie an unholy knot with the king, they are being irresponsible towards people
this is the climax of the revolution, if you believe it really is, and you should make us see the end with the establishment of Republic of Nepal.
Hey Guys!!!
Why did not KG addresses the issues raised by Maoist and civil society. Why the authentic comments of SPA, Maoist has not yet come? Are they still thinking the King is favouring them?Don’t believe on “Gharla ra Khaula”. If this happen again the people will throw you in rubish bin.
Long live the peopl’s power!!!
Ain’t nothing gonna change folks, Gyane is still going to ride is limo while the SPAMers going to bark enlessly. NO GANATANTRA!
Can we trust the seven political parties’ leaders?? Isn’t it beacuse of them all this chaotic situation arose???
What say???
Let us be realistic guys. It seems as if many people dont even know anything about Nepal.
Get out of your computer chairs and see the reality of Nepal, see how it is see who have represented people, who are the parliamenterains.
Who called the demonstrations and what should be done to restore democracy and peace?
Let us be realistic, let us not act like children and suggest names of Gagan Thapa ( who plundered in name of students at TC- 1 number durbar ko dalal) and corrupt people like Narahar Acharya (ex-darbariya).
In order for justice and system to prevail in country, SPA shoud form the government ASAP headed by Sher Bahadur Deuba.
It sucks that KG still thinks he is supreme. He decides from the palace, and we have to follow! He won’t try to know what people are upto now. Not even what SPA are upto. It’s crazy. It’s just a conspiracy.
Rajendra Pande, central member of CPN (UML) says : This is a treachery. The movement will go on unless power is handed over to the people.
Upper House MP and lawyer Radheshyam Adhikari comments: This so called solution can not stop people from reaching their goal of loktantra.
This proves that these SPA are not easily going to submit to the Shahi Terrorists. Andolan should rise like tsunami and sweep away these all Democracy haters like Paras and KG.
There is nothing new in KG’s Speech. He is still proud for what he did in Feb 1. That shows that he can do the same again and again when he wants. That is not Democracy to us. He must know that Rule of law is sine qua non to Democracy.

hello mr earth from third world
I don’t know wat is in article 35. But lets be optimistic and see if SPA will make a right move in future.
and Response1
Issue of CA can be resolved by the parliament if there is majority of voting in favour of it i guess.
Article 35 of the Constitution. Executive Power:
(1) The executive power of the Kingdom of Nepal shall, pursuant to this Constitution and other laws, be vested in His Majesty and the Council of Ministers.
(2) Except as otherwise expressly provided as to be exercised exclusively by His Majesty or at His discretion or on the recommendation of any institution or official, the powers of His Majesty under this Constitution shall be exercised upon the recommendation and advice and with the consent of the Council of Ministers. Such recommendation, advice and consent shall be submitted through the Prime Minister.
(3) The responsibility of issuing general directives, controlling and regulating the administration of the Kingdom of Nepal shall, subject to this Constitution and other laws, lie in the Council of Ministers.
(4) Except in so far as any action is to be taken in the name of His Majesty pursuant to this Constitution and other laws, all other executive actions shall be expressed to be taken in the name of His Majesty’s Government.
(5) Any decision, order or implementation warrant to be issued in the name of His Majesty pursuant to this Constitution and other laws shall be authenticated in such manner as may be set forth in rules made by His Majesty at His discretion. All other decisions, orders and implementation warrants to be issued in the name of the Council of Ministers pursuant to clause (4) above shall be authenticated in such manner as may be set forth in rules approved by His Majesty.
(6) No question shall be raised in any court as to whether or not any recommendation or advice has been given to His Majesty pursuant to this Constitution by the Council of Ministers or any other institution or official, nor shall any question be raised in any court about what recommendation or advice has been given.
Instead of declaring his own exit from the power and announcing the election of constituent assembly, his majesty did try his best to play the cheap game. So bad. We shouldn’t listen to him until he does announces his exit and of the election of contituent assembly. I will go and join the rally as I have been doing for the last several days.
I heard Gyanendra looked stoned on valium today. Good. Keep up the agitations. I suspect he’s going to overdose soon.
Here’s to that day.
And a Republic of Nepal thereafter.
I am not terroris but want to solve the problem. If there is no Maoists involved there is no peace in the country. In the whole set up, Maoists must be there.
PART 21
TRANSITIONAL PROVISIONS
128. Provisions Regarding The Council of Ministers:
(1) The Council of Ministers existing at the commencement of this Constitution shall be deemed to have been constituted under this Constitution.
(2) If, for any reason the Council of Ministers referred to in clause (1) is dissolved, His Majesty shall constitute a new Council of Ministers consisting of representatives from the main political parties.
(3) A Council of Ministers constituted under clause (2) above shall consist of a Prime Minister and, on his recommendation, other Ministers, State Ministers and Assistant Ministers as may be required.
For u guys who didn’t know about Dhara 36 and 128
U can read Article 35 above. It does not make any sense at this point of time about Article 35 because KG and his followers have raped Old Constitution so badly from all the (loop)holes that it became non-functional. There is no compromise on People’s democracy and its power.
ganatantra should be Our Aim.
Asti samma ball raja ko court ma chha. Aba raja le babal forehand haneko chha. Kohi chha SPA ma rojer federer jasto? Forehand ko jawab forehand le dine? Ki game- match- Gyane hune ho?
Cyp and Kirat: Seems you both missed me very much. So what is your analysis of the King’s proclamation?
As you can see the 1992 Constitution has a lot of potentially conflicting things, as it was drawn when King was bargaining for lots of executive power. Next step is surely a Ceremonial (or NO) king, AND CA. This will solve ALL problems.
yes hemuji
To bring maoists in goverment they should first come to the peace talk. Submit their arms and ammunitions, go to election. No. of seats they win in election they can come to govt. Not directly in present scenario.
thanx reposne1.
betternepal,
king still have power through this article to oppose the dcision of SPA.
6) No question shall be raised in any court as to whether or not any recommendation or advice has been given to His Majesty pursuant to this Constitution by the Council of Ministers or any other institution or official, nor shall any question be raised in any court about what recommendation or advice has been given.
this is above law.
only part of the power is transformed, this is not a serious commitment by king in my view.
The silent majority in Nepal wants the King to be there. This is the truth.
Believe me, if I was in Nepal, I would be there. And I agree with Candie, I have a lot of respect for those who went to protest, leaving their comfortable middle class homes and risking their lives.
But that risk will be worth absolutely nothing if the king is allowed to be a king. I value those people’s lives too much to let them have risked it for nothing. Just so the despot king could wake up in his comfy jammies in Narayanhiti the next day to munch on donuts and watch TV.
And Sher Bahadur Deuba’s wife, Arju Rana is related to Gyanendra so I can see why Mr. G would want Deuba to be PM. And Arju Rana of course, inherited mucho $$$ from her Rana family. The $$$ that the Ranas had stolen from tortured, raped, murdered people.
The people of Nepal in my opinion, have been getting screwed over by the Shah/Rana hybrids for a long time. (Add koirala, and k bhattarai to that).
A British historian dude showed up on BBC and was saying that the monarchy was finished. Gyanendra will be exiled to India because he’s done too little too late.
CPNM and SPA,
Where are you hiding still? Why we did not get your comment on King’s deceptive message? Do you have difficulties positioning your stand in connection of royal trecheraous proclamation? King will again get doubt of benefit if you start arguing on his deceptive message. Isn’t it crystal clear KG still wants to remain in power? Deuba may come with greedy desire, if so kick him out from SPA .
I was in Assi Ghat Sharma with Anup and Dipti Ranjan Mishra, when I came to know that the king who is also the chairman of the Nepali government was going to address today at 7:00 NST.
Actually, a boadman was listening the news broadcast by an Indian radio channel. The news read was talking about Karan Singh’s briefing and his recent visit to Nepal, and the demonstration in Nepal against the King. Meanwhile, it said that the King would address the nation. So we rushed to Lanka.
After eating Idlies in a restaurant just opposite of this cybercafe, I and Anup entered here.
I first opened ekantipur and nepalnews. There was only mention of the “address.” The bbc site posted nice reporting from Kathmandu.
After waiting for many minutes, the king’s speech has been has been published by nepalnews.
I did not feel that I read the whole stuff. But for me still it appears that the king is only trying to save his throne.
The very king and his company who have always used bitter words for the leaders who resorted to the foreign support for the fight against autocracy seems to be kneeling down to the Indian government’s pressure.
Shame!
Couldn’t he say earlier that the executive lies in the people? Or, is he only trying to obey what his indian masters have ordered?
Why did he wait for Karan SIngh?
Why did the Indian goverment send Karan SIngh who is cousin of the Nepali autocrat?
Something is fishy.
This is powerplay again. The Indian government and the Nepali Royal Place are only looking after their vested interests, it appears so. They do not have to do with the democracy and people’s desire. If not so, why the double standard?
The political parties, particularly, the Seven Party Alliance should understand this and should not give up what they are doing now.
Yes, people have been suffering from the general strike and the curfew imposed by the goverment. Personally speaking, I too have bee stuck here in India. I am practically broke now. But I don’t care if the demcracy gets established.
Let’s see what would happen next.
It is easier to criticize others but to act is just another thing.
Now let’s see how the PM from SPA is going to solve Maoist problem of Nepal. Last time it was their rule when the Maoists flourished. Good luck GP, MKN, SBD or whoever is going to be the PM, I hope you guys will do something about the real problem of Nepal
We are in a very decisive situation in the history of nepal now.Right now we are having half an hour of black out, the only thing that is brightning up by room is the light from the computer screen.
King has been very meticulous at usage of words ..Just .listen to its Nepali Version. Look at how he uses words like “Naaso”.
The SPA and People in the street has to be very cautios now . How many more days can demonstration be possible ?? A sinlge Lemon has now been bought for 11 rupees can u imagine that ? what shall be the situtaion if we keep on doing andolan for 15 more days? Will my employer give me salary of the month of April ? Will govt. Emlyoyees get thier Salary if things keep on running this way ??
I m not at all trying to demoralise the peoples movement, but how many days can this andolan carry on!! The king is not going to call it off. Until RNA is supporting the king we can never have a republic lets face it .How many more people to die for the country ??? I am worried and frustrated with all this . Its just my observation and questions … WHat will happen to NEPAL ??????????????
“While safeguarding multiparty democracy, the nation must be taken ahead along the road of peace and prosperity by bringing into the democratic mainstream those who have deviated from the constitutional path.”
Is KG referring to the Maoists here???
How soon before even the army gets pissed off? That’s the question. Its good the U.N is tightening the noose. Something has to be done to make the Army understand the consequences of supporting the ‘King’. In time they’ll understand. Once they don’t get those jobs, once they don’t have the money to buy the ammo.
Who knows? Insight might come faster. They saw the crowds. 200,000 here, 80,000 here, 50,000 here. They can’t be fool enough not to realize that no one wants their ‘King’ around anymore. Numbers, numbers, they make an impression.
I don’t know if people will keep the agitations up. Surely there will be more deaths. But if they’re kept up, the army will crack. That’s the power of a popular movement.
What if we have a PM appointed by the seven parties and then he appoints the council of ministers and still is under the king who will still be the constitutional monarch? Do we, or do we not want a country free of this idiot king who seems to keep on taking control of power time and again. Then we have another situation where we face the fact, about who will be, the next PM? We are aware of the fact, that once we make provision for the parties to take over power, they do change their colour. SO, now its upto us to decide, do we settle for something less even after loosing so many valuable lives, or do we continue and get what we really want and what those people who dies for really wanted?
Guys, lets look at this situation in this way, the parties go to the power, arrange for an election to a constituent assembly, we vote for a republic and so finally Gyanendra goes. This method could be very peaceful, our economy won’t suffer and what’s more it will all be done within the spirit of democracy.
Or rather we could make Gyanendra himself declare that he is abdicating the throne, but that won’t happen without a huge bloodbath and an irreversible damage to the economy.
Choose your option guys.
yes, submit arms and ammunitions like a lame goat; participate in elections like other parties and then just be a replica of NC as in 2048 and 2056 elections! That’s what a decade-long armed conflict and sacrifice of so many people worth , right??
so what do u mean to say hopes still alive ? u want to have a street fight btwn the commies and the RNA in ktm ? or u want the RNA to give up its arms to the maos ? or u want the maos to go to election with their own security and if someone doesnt elect them…wham !!! or u are still thirst of our blood ?
Given the fact that we have the Moaist to deal with, appointing a PM is not going to solve our problem. we still have to think about resolving our conflict with the Maoist. For that to happen, the present condition of constitutional moarchy is not an option. So, even if we do have a PM he should dissolve the constitution and hold fresh elections. If i was the PM i would definitely sack the present Army, Armed police chiefs and then Kamal Thapa and all the present ministers. Lets hope the new PM does think along my lines.
The King gave you what you wanted…now everyone is griping, but we don’t want that! we don’t trust the political parties! Give me a break, then! Everyone knew the parties could not be trusted after their decade long failure…and now you are going back to accept the same old garbage, the same old prime ministers, nothing new? What the hell do you people want? If you want political parties, then find some new fresh blood, someone who is really in touch with the young people of Nepal.
Otherwise, you got what you asked for…and, yes, the King did it to save his own F_-ass, no more…now you have to remember that one day, since the monarch stays in power, it will be KING PARAS. God help Nepal when that day comes. I say, get rid of him now or the royal family will haunt you FOREVER.
Admin please start new topic for discussion what political parties are saying with their views and what janata are doing on the streets. Here is crowd of opinion and it will be very difficult to read when it crosses 100. It will be easier to read and comment when there is another topic. Guys keep on watching merosansar.com .np also. worth of reading Nepali Blog.(it’s not advertisement just info for those who want to know live updates.)
You know what? This guy Gyane is going to buckle. Sure. This was a desperate effort to try to convince everyone that he’s still the tough guy. But one look at his eyes and you can tell. He knows the end is near and is just trying to prolong it.
Now if those SPA leaders can understand that, they can do some pretty hard bargaining with him. Now’s the time. He’s under pressure.
Whatever the King may be but he is NOT an idiot. I wish if our leaders would have been as cleaver as he is .. the country could have been great. With Jalanaths, Gachhedars, Sujatas, Joshis, Wagles we have no hope !
of course the present ministers will be sacked once the new PM comes.. but i dont think no one will dare to touch the RNA and its generals..they are too powerful
People:
It is easy for us (me,Melissa etc.) to come here and rant about how the people should go no with the movement until Nepal is a republic. However, I am interested to know if the people of KTM can continue to go on protesting… How much longer can people go on with the curfews, rations etc? I really respect the people of KTM who have come out to the streets in the last 2 weeks.
I don’t know what to think of the King’s speech. I have a difficult time trusting this man. He is not one that sits back like his brother. But at least it seems there is some progress… I think the SPA should nominate Girija Prasad Koirala as the next prime minister. Yes I hate the man and his evil spawn Sujata Koirala - I would like to lynch them in public if I could. However, right now if you think about there are no other leaders who is capable of standing up to the king. Deuba is a spineless idiot… he got us here in the first place. Madav Kumar is just Madav Kumar I don’t see him as being really capable of anything.
People like Gagan Thapa are promising leaders and but they cannot handal the situation we are in now. This is a tricky sitation because the King still controls the RNA etc.
I hope that the parties manage to come to a concensus and nominate someone… then the next step has to be revival of the constituent assembly. SLowly the constituent assembly will bring the Maoist to the mainstream politics and hold general elections… the biggest obstacle is to get the RNA in the hands of the civilian government.
Bahula_kaji: Don’t despair. Republicanism is no answer. King is necessary for Nepal’s ethnic cohesion and territorial integrity. Remember what happened to Yugoslavia ?
I think daggers right.
Please Dineshji and Ujjwolji, do moderate your blogs.
LET US NOT PUT VIOLENCE PROVOKING STATEMENTS HERE.
WE NEED PEACE IN NEPAL. LET US NOT HAVE OUR COUNTRY BE ENGULFED BY ANARCHY AND VIOLENCE FOREVER.
KING HAS STATED OPENLY FOR SPA TO BRING THE NAME OF PRIME MINISTER, WE NEED TO CAREFULLY ACCEPT IT.
SPA SHOULD NOW FORM GOVERNMENT ASAP HEADED BY DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED PRIME MINISTER.
YES IT IS SHER BAHADUR DEUBA WHO WAS ELECTED BY THE LAST PARLIAMENT. SO SPA SHOULD LET HIM BE THE PM, AND FORM A GOVERNMENT COMPRISING OF SEVEN PARTIES.
THEN IT WILL BE THE TEST OF MAOISTS IN WHETHER THEY are ready to GIVE UP THE VIOLENCE.
I am dead against the king, he should leave.
Just saw the guy on BBC TV…
He just looked heavily loaded with drugs.
In a kind of state of shock. Stunned.
This guy is finished and he knows it. He is scared.
Sure Nepal did not deserve to have such a mock monarch.
Seshyan Nepal, I totes agree. The king is necessary for the cohesion of all BAHULA kajis in the country. They’re all his ministers and his cronies right now.
Few moments ago there was agony and anger while watching the scenes in the tv. Now it is time to think with a cool mind what needs to be done. What the words of KG mean.
For me KG is a bloody maniac and should be removed otherwise we will have to through the same process again. Of course at that time the killings and pain would be much more serious.
The answer is very clear constituent assembly. I hope in case SPA guys can come up with the agenda which should be made public. Not too worded plian language. My view are:
1)Constituent assembly for new constitution
2) Referendum on the need of constitutional monarch or republic straight front no politicking in this issue.
3)Prime minister cannnot be for more than two terms.
Any suggestions to put more
I tend to agree with Bahula kaji. The movement has not been as successful as it should have been given the costs we have incurred so far including the lives of more than 10 people.
We seriously need to think of alternatives and not just further intensify the hardship faced by the ordinary citizens. How can you live without earning for half a month when you used to earn on a daily basis for your meal.
This is a pretty tough scenario. We need to think more for alternatives.
The thing now for SPA is to recommend a PM who will then form a caretaker government lead by someone with integrity and public respect. The biggest challenge will obviously be to bring the Maoists to the mainstream.
I personally think that Paraksh Man Singh would be an excellent candidate!
Whover it is, GIRIJA PRASAD SHOULD NOT BE THE NEXT PRIME MINISTER.
GIRIJA PRASAD IS THE MAN BEHIND THE REASON DEMOCRACY FAILED IN COUNTRY.
HE WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR NEPTISM, CORRUPTION AND GANSTERISM AND RIOTISM.
HE WAS THE REASON PARTY BROKE UP. HE PLOTTED CORRUPT GAME AGAINST HIS OWN PARTY’S PRIME MINISTERS SEVERAL TIMES.
GIRJA FOR ONCE AND FOR ALL SHOULD GIVE UP HIS OBSESSION FOR POWER.
This country will be divided into Baishe and Chaubishe Rajyas as it was before King Prithvi Narayan Shah united Nepal. Food for thought, fellas!
I heard that Girija Prasad is again playing his dirty games.
IN REALITY, SHER BAHADUR IS THE LAST PM ELECTED BY THE PARLIAMENT SO HE SHOULD BE REINSTATED AS THE PRIME MINISTER.
GIRIJA SHOULD SUPPORT SHER BAHADUR AS HIS NEW LEADER.
Seshan Nepal,
Just get out of here and write on your own blog. Go. Call it Gyanendra’s Chamchas or ‘Idiot Royalists living in the 21st century who still think its the 19th century’ or something. Find something to do and leave us the heck alone.
There’s this fellow blogdai who’s more your type. Go there. Don’t piss us off with your stupidity.
Hari Sharma People like u are not in AAndolan but prefer to run out of country, so AAndolan is not successful
why donot u understand?
Anndolan is very much successful and it will be more successful in coming days
Parties should not be fooled by King’s speech
Gantantra is minimum meeting point.
I totally agree with Seshyan Nepal and Peace
Prakash Man Singh is the right candidate.
Girija -TOtal Failure multiple times.
Deuba-TOtal Failure multiple times.
Makune- Another example of total failure.
We also don’t want Padma Ratna he is total useless always changing his position to adjust.
In last parliament election HE LOST by lots of difference in KTM. People of KTM don’t want him though he is NEWAR.
As somebody stated earlier, Bhudai Pundit has been hired by some Koirala-congressi to just blow trumpte about Girija and post comments against Sher Bahadur Deuba.
How can a person such as Sher Bahadur Deuba who came from the remotest area of Nepal, suffered for years in struggle for democracy during Panchayat regime, was jailed for more than seven years, was able to win most of the seats from Sudur Pachim for Nepali Congress and who dared to break away from the corrupt tyranny of Girija Prasad be abused by somebody called Bhudai Pundit and Melissa from out of Nepal. I think we should not allow Nepalese people to be called spineless.
Seshyan is afraid : he’ll lose his job very soon ! No more rupees from KK…
This country will be divided into Baishe and Chaubishe Rajyas as it was before King Prithvi Narayan Shah united Nepal. Food for thought, fellas!
Uf, Paras, you don’t have to take a pseudonym and try to convince us that your daddy’s the best dude for the job.
No, seriously though, why do you say that? Do you really think the people of Nepal are that stupid?
Because I don’t. I don’t think ethnicity divides anyone anymore. As long as they’re not like Gyanendra, who’s mother and father were cousins :S and his own wife was his cousin :S
hahaha ..prakash man singh re… he is a dumbo..the only nobel human being to come out of his family was ganesh man singh..who i belive is the greatest martyr of this country..others like PL Singh who was the mayor of ktm..i dont think they were that impressive am not sayin they were bad..but u know..and i know a bunch of fellas from that ..singh family…dont like any of them..hope u arent of them ..
no! w..wait it’s not that am i in favor of more blood or happy by this void of peace. I’m only trying to draw ur attention towards the decade long struggle of maoists and the reason for which they should reconcile or concede their armed strifle. Yes, sooner or later they have to and they will of course lay down their arms but do u think it is ok if they easily cease their long walk of peoples’ war for something like coalition government under the king’s regime. Won’t they be cursed by the martyrs of people’s war(including the security forces as well)?? So, the mere solution is a REPUBLIC government. Anything less than this will not be acceptable and should never be.
Just a while ago, I happened to listen to the brief interview by K.B. mahara. he’s said the king’s speech is another form of ‘traditional royal treachery’ and they won’t reconcile until king addresses at minimum Constitution assembly which is the demand of people.
some one tell me what a Constitutional Assembly is ??? how is that different from the last one we had just before it was dissolved?

Its not worth arguing with Seshan Nepal. Lets all collect money and buy him a time machine and blast him back to the 17th century.
He’ll love it.
now whats all this fuss about. king has given the power back to people and has asked to name the prime minister. its the SPA leader’s job to recommend whatever they like. e.g. reinstatement of parliament and even constituient assembly. what the hell SPA leaders’ looking for? they need to come out of room and do something for their own. they can not expect all the work to be done by people on street and king.
PARLIAMENT INCLUDING GIRIJA PARSAD KOIRALA HAD ELECTED SHER BAHADUR DEUBA, SO HE SHOULD BE THE NEXT PRIME MINISTER HOWEVER HE SHOULD NOT INCLUDE CORRUPT PEOPLE IN THE CABINET.
THIS TIME NO CORRUPT PEOPLE SHOULD BE BROUGHT IN CABINET. ITS BETTER TO BRING TOTALLY NEW FACES. THOSE WHO WERE MINISTERS IN THE PREVIOUS GOVERNMENT SHOULD NOT BE INCLUDED IN CURRENT CABINET.
Good idea, Manan,
But sould we build this time machine with or without MB’s ?
Peace:
I completly agree that Girija was a totally failure and he was currupt etc. But who else do we have right now thats a better alternative?
Cyp and Manan,
If you had time machine then make sure to remove Girija from Politics. He should be given a post of a HAWALDAR IN INDIAN POLICE and he would have been happy to be a hawaldar for his whole life.
Without MBs. The two belong to different eras. MBs belong to the 1940s and 1950s. Wheras Sehsyan Nepal belongs wholly to the 18th century.
There’s a famous saying “A bad government is elected by good people who do not vote in elections”. The vacuum created by absence of good people is occupied by bad elements.
i guess that why we are facing this day today
Well, well… Girija being already dehydrated, I would just wrapp him in coton, and expose him in a museum, preferably in Egypt, as they love mummies there…
OK, I shut up now, because I guess you must have more serious subjects to talk about…
Seshyan Nepali, you are right to mentio Yugoslavia. But that holds true for any former communist country that broke apart. Look at the former states of the Soviet Union, Yugoslavia, just two for starters. Yes, the King is the only thing binding Nepalese. It is clear just from reading blogs like this and having lived and worked in Nepal for many years (i’m in the states now) that Nepalese of different ethnic groups and castes can’t stand each other! Read this blog and it is obvious. the talk is not of uniting but of seperating…
So in that sense it is good the King stays in power…but he has shown his true colors, and if he can do this once, he can do it again. He has not given up his control. And god help us when he dies and PARAS IS KING. Remember, most members of his family don’t live beyond their late 60’s (and I’m not talking about the royal massacre, just in general)
Again the dictator king is trying to fool us. Remember - one cant fool all the people all the time. He had repeatedly commandated SPA for commonly agreed PM in the past after saking and reapoinint then Deuba led government. His rhetoric like -’we are committed to multiparty democracy and constitutinal monarchy” is nothing new but a cunning strategy to put water on buring public fire that is about burn him and his institution alive. No matter what US, India, EU and others say, we should not agree for less than - all party government to hold the constitutional assemply election - we will draw our future and decide on his fate. The auticratic regime and the Maoist alike claim to have public support, let see what Nepali people really want - constitutiona monarch, community republic or democratic republic. With fair election, I gaurantee “democratic repulic of Nepal” will triamph. If the Girija and his gang are lured to the post of PM and be king’s toys, we should be ready to punish them - this no excure - they have done enogh damage for the last 14 years, which brought this situation. Girija, Deuwa, shoudl not be PM at any cost unless we want to ruin our country for good. We have to find ways to bring honest and younger generatins leaders and the majority of Maoists into political mainstream. We will definately achieve peace and progress without King but not without brining the Maoist into political mainstream. the King has finally listened to US and India who want to have pappet government in Nepal, and undermine the Maoist cause. I grongly deplore the Maosit regime but dont see anyway out without have negotiated settlement with them -after all they are like us Nepalis and their fight for casue is genuine despite the means are totally brutal and often inhuman.
Long live democracy. Down with royal regime and the M
